Auditions for Insane Animals

End Times Theater Company is currently seeking 4-5 performers for their inaugural production of the musical Insane Animals, by George Hayworth and Liv Morris (Bourgeois and Maurice). This is the American premiere of an original musical that explores love, death, and morality packaged in a campy, intergalactic re-telling of the The Epic of Gilgamesh.

All roles are available. This is a paid project, and all performers will be compensated $1,200 for five weeks of work (this includes all rehearsals and one weekend of performances). Performers will be paid no more than one week after closing. One performer has been cast; their role will be determined after auditions.

**We are only casting non-union, local performers over the age of 18. Please note that age will be verified due to the content of the show.**

Rehearsals will run Tuesdays-Fridays from 6:30-9:30pm and Saturday mornings from 8am-12pm, location to be announced.

SYNOPSIS

The story of Insane Animals is this: two time-traveling aliens have landed on earth to save humanity from the brink of collapse. What follows is a chaotic retelling of the ancient Epic of Gilgamesh, featuring a campy pop-rock score. In this fable of mythic proportions, the aliens pose as gods and coerce the tyrannical King Gilgamesh to embark on a quest to defeat death. The trio’s messy time traveling endeavors take them to the future where the horrifying yet mesmerizing transhumanist movement forces them to beg the question: is immortality really all it's cracked up to be?

CHARACTERS

All actors, regardless of identity, can be considered for all roles. Performers of all abilities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. End Times Theater Company is fully dedicated to having an accessible and anti-racist audition/rehearsal/performance process.

Alien 1 (to be named): Any age, strong comedic actor comfortable with audience interaction. Narrates the show alongside Alien 2. Alien 1 is upbeat, unserious, and chronically online.

Alien 2 (to be named): Any age, strong comedic actor comfortable with audience interaction. Ability to effectively deliver dry humor is a must. Narrates the show alongside Alien 1. Alien 2 is more reserved, logical, and direct, but is still down for a good time.

Darren/Gilgamesh: any age, strong comedic actor and vocalist with ability to harmonize. Darren is an “audience member” who takes on the role of King Gilgamesh at the urge of our Alien narrators. Gilgamesh is the rage-filled, egotistical ruler of Uruk.

Enkidu/Aubrey: 20’s-30’s, strong comedic actor and vocalist with ability to harmonize. Gilgamesh's enemy turned lover. Doubled as Aubrey, a transhumanist and Beverly’s assistant.

Shamhat/Beverly/Humbaba: 20’s-30’s, strong comedic actor and vocalist with ability to harmonize. A servant to Gilgamesh and a friend to Enkidu. Doubled as Beverly, a transhumanist surgeon, and Humbaba, a woodland creature who is friends with Enkidu but an enemy of Gilgamesh.
